What is one money lesson you hope to teach your kids as they grow up?
I hope my kids learn that money is a tool, not a solution for happiness. I want them to value hard work, saving, investing, and long-term thinking, but I also want them to carry gratitude with them.
Financial independence can create opportunities, provide confidence, and allow us to care for the people we love. But I also want them to understand that part of using money well is helping others and giving back when you can.
What’s the best piece of advice your own father (or father figure) gave you?
I lost my father earlier this year, so this Father’s Day will bring a lot of reflections.
My dad taught more by example than by words. He saw the good in people and brought a positive, happy attitude wherever he went. He did not take life too seriously, and people felt comfortable around him.
That is something I try to carry with me as a father and as an advisor. Financial conversations can be stressful, and I hope I can help clients feel more at ease as we work through important decisions together.
What’s one “dad moment” that always makes you smile, no matter how busy work gets?
One of my favorite moments is when my incredible wife manages somehow to pack all three kids into our stroller wagon and hike just over a mile from our house to the office, just to visit me at the end of the day often on Fridays.
The kids burst through the door excited to see “Daddy at work” and my work family will all come out to greet them! No matter how busy the week has been, it immediately changes the energy of the day and reminds me what all the hard work is for.
If you could give other dads one financial tip for their families, what would it be?
I think many dads (myself included) carry financial pressure quietly. There is a natural desire to provide, protect, and make the right decisions for your family.
My advice is to focus on what you can control; have a plan, save consistently, build and emergency fund, and protect your family where you can. A good plan does not remove every worry, but it can give confidence and help you be more present at home.
